We welcomed Wollersheim into our home almost two weeks ago.
Such a big name for such a little dog! We heard that the rescuers
in Alabama were calling him Charlie, so that's what we've been calling him.
He responds to the name Charlie, so that's what we've been using.
The information that we had from Alabama
said that Charlie had been an outdoor dog and wasn't accustomed to being
inside. That was apparent the first few days with us. He loves
being outside and would make himself comfortable under a bush or laying down on
the patio and just hanging out. When we would bring him inside he wasn't
sure where to sit or where to lay down. He wouldn't jump up on the couch,
but that only lasted a few days. He's very comfortable inside now
and sleeps on the couch or the chairs just like our own dogs. We knew it wouldn’t take long for him to get
used to being inside!
Charlie is a very sweet and loving dog who likes to cuddle and
give lots of kisses! The first week he
was here I crated him at night and during the day if we were out. He had no problem being in the crate,
although we had to coax him in with a treat.
Once there he didn’t bark or whine and did just fine. After the first week it was obvious that he
would be just fine outside of the crate.
He gets along with our 2 springer spaniels. He’s not aggressive at all, and thankfully
isn’t a chewer so I know the furniture is safe!
So now we don’t crate him at all.
He’s had no food guarding issues or toy guarding issues. I feed him in the same room with my dogs and
they all keep to themselves while eating.
He likes playing with toys, but my alpha springer spaniel takes the toys
out of his mouth, and Charlie happily goes and finds another toy to play with.
I can’t say enough good things about this sweet boy. He loves my 11 year old daughter. She runs around the yard and he chases
her. He’s done well when friends have
come over. He plays with everyone and
would do well in a family with or without children. We have a cat, and the cat normally stays
away from the foster dogs (usually because they bark at her). Charlie has absolutely no reaction to the
cat! It’s very funny. The cat tiptoes into the room that Charlie is
in, they look at each other, and then the cat just goes on her way. Charlie doesn’t get up to chase after her or
bark at her, nothing!
We’ve taken Charlie for a walk a few times and he does pretty
well. He likes to smell everything, so
walking can be a bit slow, but the more we go out the better he is. He doesn’t pull at all or bark at people, so
it’s nice going out with him. He’ll get
even better with more practice.
Here's a picture of Charlie relaxing on the couch, and a video of him enjoying the yard on a beautiful fall day!
